Lets Talk about Makeup - Linsey Douglas Mua

Hey Guys, I know you have all been patiently waiting to see who the next person was being interviewed in the ‘Lets Talk about Makeup’ series. You will know from my social media accounts I have been following Linsey Douglas’s career as a Makeup Artist for a while now and have loved seeing her venture out and create her own business and following as a social media influencer. I was so happy when Linsey agreed to be included in this series because as you know I like to bring you a knowledge and understanding of the Makeup Industry from all aspects. Who better to give you that than a woman who you will see from her Interview started out as just a makeup lover and went onto becoming a self taught makeup artist, business woman and now social media influencer. I think her story shows that with real determination you can do anything as long as you makeup is on point ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope you enjoy this interview and go give Linsey some love on her social media accounts which are all listed at the end.

Can you tell us about your background - How did you start out in the makeup industry? Was being an MUA always your ambition? When did you decide you wanted to start your own business?

At first my intention was not to become a makeup artist at all I studied beauty therapy for 4 years at college and qualified with a HND, once I left college my main priority was getting a job I had my daughter at 18 so for me  I was more focused on being able to provide her than building a career.. eventually after applying for every job under the sun I heard back from Urban Decay ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ .. I had the job .. again for me to start I was their to make money but as all is women know if you are surrounded by all that makeup what are you going to do .. PLAY WITH IT!! I would say that’s where the obsession started, I loved when girls would come on the counter to get their makeup done .. and watch how happy & confident then felt when they left, that’s when I knew this was the career path for me.

You started your brand with glitters and Pigments why was this? What do you think makes your brand stand out from all the others that seem to be popping up everyday?

When I started my brand it was kind of by accident.. when I started out self employed it was very difficult to build a kit & gain clients back them I was always looking for amazing products at low prices, during my search I came across a supplier website for pigments luckily for me they did samples so I contacted them and had them send me some out.. OMFG!! literally I was shook these where the best pigments I’d ever used!! Online people would ask me ‘that is in your inner corner?” “What is that highlighter” .. that is when I had a little brain wave and thought hold on a minute I could make a business out of this.

I think what makes my brand stand out is the quality of the product at such a low price and I feel the products speak for themselves once your hooked .. your hooked ๐Ÿ˜‚, for me I wanted to make my products affordable for everyone, like me when I was just starting my makeup career I was on a budget I wanted to help other aspiring artists who couldn’t afford to spend £10+ on just one pigment.

You seem to have made the leap from being an MUA and business woman to also a social media influencer. Was that intentional? Do you enjoy the attention it gives you and your brand?

Again I just go with the flow I’m a strong believer in what’s for you won’t go past you, of course I love it, but with the good their is always the bad side to social media with trolls etc. Which at first used to really get to me now I’ve realised that the more trolls you have .. the better your doing ๐Ÿ’ก

You are well known for how you take pictures of your makeup. Can you tell us how you achieve these pictures?

Well .. when I take my photos I use a digital camera with the flash on .. the secret is to turn off all the lights and make the room as as dark as it can, I adjust the brightness on my camera down to as low as it can go (this stops you looking like you have a big white face) and snap away

A lot of people (including myself) follow you for your real, honest review of products and your live videos showing us how to use them.

What 3 products would you recommend to my readers that they may not have heard about?

Olivia Belle white liner๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Estรฉe Lauder camouflage foundation for an eyeshadow base ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

Flicker eyez Lashes ๐Ÿ‘€

You aren't only a business woman but also a mother of two. How do you balance the business, your clients and being a mum? Do you ever get time to yourself?

If I’m being honest I’m just winging it ๐Ÿ˜‚.. I have no clue, it can be very stressful because everyone wants your attention all at once all the time .. people messaging on social platforms, emails ects.. stresses me out the most because I can’t always get back to them as quick as I’d like to (as my screaming baby screams in the background and my 8 year old “mum, mum, mum, MUUUUUUUUMM!”) and that’s when people start to get upset because they haven’t heard back within the hour ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿป‍♀️ .. sorry guys just having a meltdown ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Time to myself is normally around 9pm with a vodka cola going through everyone’s emails from that day .. so no not really ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿป‍♀️

If you could only have 5 products in your makeup bag forever what would they be?

Ice ice baby
Revlon lash glue
Estรฉe Lauder camouflage foundation
Glitter of any form ๐Ÿ˜‚
False lashes

Who are your inspirations in the Makeup industry?

I would probably say Plouise I think she’s amazing not only on the makeup side of things  but as a business woman .. incredible ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿผ

Linsey with Plouise.
If someone reading this wants to be an MUA but is overwhelmed with the amount of seriously talented make up artists around at the moment what would your advice be?

Do you, everyone has a different style of make-up application just because you don’t fit into one category doesn’t mean you are no good.. and definitely don’t compare yourself to other people you are you that’s what makes you unique ♥️

What are your future plans/goals for the business? Do you plan on introducing new products?

My plans for the future I’m looking into accrediting so people can come learn from me and gain a qualification ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

10000000% I will definitely start investing into new products & collaborations I cave a little surprise for everyone at Christmas time *cough* new palette *cough*
